Dorothy Marie Olle Sims passed away peacefully on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the age of 91. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother.

Dorothy was born April 21, 1925 to Ernest and Cora Boortz Olle in Creedmoor, TX. As a small child, she moved with her family to Taft, Texas, where she attended school. Before she graduated, she and Frank Sims of Odem eloped on August 31, 1941. Due to her father’s insistence, Dorothy finished school. After Frank’s stint in the Navy and living in California for a short time, they settled in Robstown and lived there for the next fourteen years, where they raised two of their three children, Gordon and Terry. Virginia Leigh was born on July 1, 1957 and a four short years later, Dorothy, Frank and the children relocated to Raymondville due to Frank’s job with Pan American Oil Company, which later became Amoco. In Raymondville, Dorothy worked for the Raymondville School District until retirement. She was a devoted Presbyterian, loved attending her son’s football, basketball and baseball games, spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, attending community concerts and fishing with Frank. Dorothy loved life and everyone that surrounded her.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 61 years, Harvey Frank Sims, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Jeanne Shearer of Houston, her three children, Gordon (Cathy) Sims of Bishop, Terry (Candy) of Los Fresnos, and Virginia Leigh (Curtis) Koester of San Perlita and Judy Bartelli Sims of Fairhope, Alabama, sister-in-law, Catherine Roach of Enterprise, Alabama and Betty Sims of Odem, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Bradley, Robert and Jennifer Sims, Nicole Kutchins and Terry Bartelli Sims, and Kelly Koester and 10 great-grandchildren.

A special thanks to our angels on earth Virginia De La Torre and Carmen Rodriguez for the years of excellent care given to Dorothy.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to the Drippings Springs Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 26650 RR 12, Dripping Springs, TX 78620 or the charity of one’s choice.
