Clara “Sissy” Van Matre Thomas, 71 passed away on Monday November 7, 2016 at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.

She was born in Edinburg, Texas on April 23, 1945 to Clovis and Mannie Van Matre. She moved with her parents to Redfish Bay, later renamed Port Mansfield Texas. She attended San Perlita schools, as well as, Raymondville High School. Clara continued her education at Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, Texas where she became a dietitian. She was employed by Texas Health Hospital in Azle, Texas.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents; five older brothers, Ralph of Corpus Christi, Texas, Harvey of Port Mansfield, Texas, Melvin of Schriever, Louisiana, Clovis, Jr. of Mesquite Texas and Bill of Natchitoches, Louisiana; one older sister, Alice Van Matre Campbell of Schriever, Louisiana.

Clara is survived by two sons, Charles Lackey and Jimmy Parks, both of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Sharon Parks of Bakersfield, California, Martha Strader of Edinburg, Texas; two brothers, Johnny (Cathy) Van Matre of Waco, Texas and Joe (Jennifer) Van Matre of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Dora (Don) Harper of Crawford, Texas, Lois Van Matre Hodgson of Ringing, Oklahoma and Margie (Ashley) Strader of Raymondville, Texas; four granddaughters and five grandsons; numerous great grandchildren, nephews and nieces and many good friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 am. at the United Pentecostal Church, 1255 E. Hidalgo Ave., Raymondville, Texas. Interment to follow in the Raymondville Memorial Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Duddlesten Funeral Home, 604 W. Hidalgo Ave., Raymondville, Texas
