Earth Day is this Saturday, April 22 and, to commemorate such occasion, La Jarra Assisted Living will host several events.

A 1 mile walk and a 5k run will kick off the activities.

The walk is for people of all ages who prefer going at a slow pace rather than working up a sweat.

The starting time is 7 a.m.

Later in the morning, children will have the opportunity to plant something to attract birds and butterflies like milk weed, or butterfly plants.

Joe Wetegrove, coowner of the senior facility, said they are inviting the community to check out the place and to celebrate Earth Day.

First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day mobilizes today more than 200 million people in 141 countries.

La Jarra is at the end of County Road 315, also known as Las Majadas Road, off Texas Highway 186 east of Raymondville.

Another event co-hosted by La Jarra and the Raymondville Chamber of Commerce will start at 6 p. m. at the L. E. Franks Tourist Center.

There will a wildgame tasting, a steak dinner and music provided by Mr. Whiskey.

A live auction will also be held for a couple of hunts and group dinners.

The Bling, Jeans and Boots will be at the tourist center on South Seventh Street.
