The search for a new superintendent for the Raymondville school district to replace Johnny Pineda, who resigned Jan. 31 after serving 9 1/2 years, continues and new board members sworn in this week will join in the pro- cess, said Dr. Douglas Moore, acting interim superintendent.

“That process is already under way,” Moore said. “The new board was sworn in (May 16) and the votes were canvassed.”

The school district already has about 50 applicants for the top post and applications will be closed out May 22, Moore said. When the applications have been narrowed down to the ones the board wants to interview, all those applicants will be interviewed by the full school board, he said.

Board President Jessica Ramirez- Cantu, Place 1, has been replaced by Judy Gutierrez. Place 2 electee, John Solis, replaced Guadalupe “ Lupe” Ruiz. Place 6 electee Janie Cruz Rivas replaced Ramiro “Ram” Ramirez.

Longoria, Ramirez- Cantu, Ram Ramirez and Ruiz ran and won four years ago as a “ Raymondville United” slate of candidates.

Election of three new board members will not affect the timetable to select a new superintendent said Moore.
