Texas Rangers are still investigating a May 8 Lasara double homicide in which each victim had a gunshot wound to the body.

Donald and Sandra Dee “Sandi” Durbin were found in a home on County Road 2800 near Texas Highway 88 about 10 miles west of Raymondville.

Texas Department of Public Safety Lt. Juan Hernandez said Tuesday the incident is still termed a double homicide and is still under investigation by Texas Rangers.

Willacy County Sheriff Larry Spence said he has not heard from the Rangers whether there are any theories how the shootings occurred or whether there have been any suspects identified in the incident.

It normally takes a week to get an initial report from forensic investigators, “but the autopsy can take months,” Spence said.

Although rumors circulated that the Durbins were shot in the head and that led to speculation that the case is a murder-suicide, but that possibility has not been mentioned in official reports.

Hermandez confirmed that the case is listed as a double homicide, not a murder-suicide.

The Durbins filed for divorce in Willacy County in August 2009, court records state.
