DPS traffic stop leads to fugitive arrest

WESLACO, TEXAS - The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) arrested a Florida murder suspect Friday after a Texas Highway Patrol trooper stopped a vehicle in Hidalgo County.

At approximately 10 p.m., a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup on U.S. 83. The driver evaded law enforcement and came to a stop after he crashed near U.S. 83 and Mile 1 East where he fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended by the Trooper. A record check revealed that Jason MacDonald had various felony warrants out of Orange County, Florida. During inventory of the vehicle, trooper located a firearm near the driver’s side door.

MacDonald, 38, of Florida, was arrested and booked into the Cameron County jail for Florida warrants on first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, and aggravated theft of a motor vehicle. Troopers also filed felony charges of evading arrest using vehicle and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
