Behind the Badge

Today’s preparation determines tomorrow’s achievement
By Larry G. Spence

I want to share with you this week a four-letter word. No, this column is not for mature audiences only. The four-letter word I want to talk about is the word, "work." Well, maybe to some it is a bad word. As far as I know the hen is the only one who can lay around and still be a producer. The rest of us need to put forth some effort to provide for our needs, and that entails work. Work is the price of success, and you can't climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pocket. It takes work! Nobody ever got his/her mind dirty doing hard work.

Work is good for us, whether at a job or at home. Housework is work, just ask those that do it. Housework is something you do that nobody notices until you don't do it. Work is not supposed to be easy or else it would be called something else. The word “easy” only appears once in the New Testament and then in connection with the yoke. Again referring to the New Testament you will notice we never hear anything about the resolutions of the apostles, but a great deal is heard about the "Acts of the Apostles."

It could be quite possible to work without results, but never will there be results without work. Our world does not pay for what a person knows, but it pays for what a person does with what he knows. I personally believe that if a person has enough strength to call in sick, then they have enough to be at work. It's been said that there are two kinds of people; those who work and those who take the credit. You should try to be in the first group, there is much less competition there. The world does not owe you a living until you have earned it Work isn't work if you enjoy it. I've worked almost all of my life and for the most part with few exceptions I've enjoyed it and it has provided for me and my family.

One of the problems we face today is the number of people who are unemployed isn't as great as the number who aren't working. In other words some people wouldn't take a job if offered. Too many Americans are of the opinion that it’s easier to vote for something than to work for it. Work is not meant to be a penalty for living. The best investment you can make in life is hard work. It is the price of success! Have a good week, stay safe, and stay blessed!
