Commuter train route opening delayed amid gov't shutdown

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Officials are delaying the opening of a new commuter train service from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to downtown Fort Worth, citing the partial shutdown of the federal government.

The Fort Worth Star Telegram reports that operators said as late as Friday morning that the 27- mile line would open as scheduled on Saturday.

But after 5 p.m. Friday, Paul Ballard, president of local transit authority Trinity Metro, said the decision had been made to indefinitely postpone the route's opening.

At issue is a railroad interchange that has been completed but runs near Interstate 30. Trinity Metro says it has yet to receive permission from the Federal Railroad Administration to use those tracks and is still waiting on paperwork it expected to receive but hasn't due to the shutdown.
